4 Part Business Financial Workshop Series

The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw office will be offering a 4-part Financial workshop series in August.
The workshops will be held at the Enterprise Center, across the parking lot from Hunan Restaurant, every Wednesday from 12:00 – 1:30 pm and every Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm
The registration/material cost for the 4-part series is $100 for the series or $30.00 per workshop.
1.  “Your Business Health” Business problems are so incredibly similar to our health problems. A seemingly healthy business can have underlying problems that can be more easily addressed and or resolved if the effort to do so is sooner rather than later.  Attend this workshop to determine your business’ health.  (August 1st and 9th)
2.  “Understanding Your Financial Statements” A small business owner must be able to understand their financial statements in order to realize the vital role money plays in every business decision and to determine if you are making a profit or losing money.  In this workshop we will: Review accounting basics to understand the information on your financial statements and to understand how to read and analyze your income statement and balance sheet. (August 15th and 16th)
3.  “Cash Flow Management” Cash flow management is the process of monitoring, analyzing and adjust your business’ cash flows.  The prime objective for any business to survive is to have enough cash to meet its obligations.  All businesses, no matter how small or large, function on cash. (August 22nd and 23rd)
4. “Understanding Where You Stand” Is your business making the grade?  Attend this workshop to learn how to score some insight into the performance of your business. (August 29th and 30th)

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

MPNNCSB Prevention, Health & Wellness Division will be offering two Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings that is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing mental health or addiction challenges or is in crisis.  
         
The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.

This training is open to the public. Materials will be provided. Bring a brown bag for a working lunch. Registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. 
COST: $30.00 (includes materials)

Two Steps Club

Take a couple of steps back to revisit some of those unfinished projects. This group will meet two times per month on the second Thursday and fourth Tuesday of each month. Come to one or both sessions to receive help, moral support and use of shop specialty rulers to complete your projects.

Revolutionary History Tour Bus Trip to Yorktown

Get on the bus with us! We'll start with a guided walking tour at Yorktown Battlefield and then spend the afternoon at the NEW American Revolution Museum with a guided highlights tour of the museum galleries and time on your own to further explore the museum or visit the outdoor living history outdoor encampment and farm.

Workshop-Picasso and the Fearless Print!-Instructor-Fenella Bella

Class will be held from 10 am - 4 pm.  Using prints made by Picasso as inspiration this workshop will introduce you to the fun but challenging process of reduction printing.  The print is designed in advance and then slowly carved and printed in a succession that produces a final multi-colored print and a fully exhausted carving block.

Workshop-Painted Silk Scarf-Instructor-Mary Swezey

Class will be held from 10 am - 4 pm. Using the serti technique, participants will draw original designs onto stretched silk with water-based resist.  After the designs have dried, colorful paints are brushed on ad spread to the edge of the resist lines.  Expect to take home at least one completed long scarf.

Music on the Half Shell Stage: West Grove Street with special guest Virginia Shellphish Coalition

Proudly  presented by Chesapeake Bank & the Town of Kilmarnock.
All 2018 concerts are 5:00-8:30 PM,  music starts at 5:00 PM and goes on rain or shine.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase, so please no coolers and no dogs except in the dog park.
Parking is on site at the Park with overflow parking at Kilmarnock’s municipal parking lots on Main and Augusta Streets. 
All 2018 concerts are ticketed events.  Tickets are $5 per person.

West Groove Street is a funky, soulful, R&B rock and roll experience. Band members include Marna Bales (Marna Bales Band, Marna and Macy) Leetah Stanley (Soul Food Combo), John McNiel (Honky Tonk Heroes) Jody Boyd (Honky Tonk Heroes) Audie Stanley (Robin Thompson Band, Steve Bassett) Dean Berry (Sportsbar Rockstar, Honky Tonk Heroes).

Workshop-Nantucket Wine Chiller-Instructor-Judy Penry

This will be a 2 day class with the second day being October 5.  Class will be held from 10 am - 4pm each day.  Students will use an arcylic wine chiller as a mold. The chiller begins with a wooden base, dyed staves, and is woven with cane.

Third-generation member of the legendary Carter family Dale Jett with his wife Teresa Jett and Oscar Harris perform traditional Appalachian Americana music that provides the closest link to the music of the original Carter family.

Enjoy this special musical performance at Christ Church (1735), a National Historic Landmark. 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Intermission with libations.  

Funding provided by the Robert S. and Martha S. Scheu Fund of the River Counties Community Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
